Programming and startup operation

Before the DPSI 2018 Duplex Edition can be used the listed parameters must be programmed:

  • Battery type
  • Output voltagtes "A", "B" and "C"
  • Receiver type
  • Channel allocating standard servo outputs "C"

With the programming button SET different parameters can be programmed depending on the moment of pushing. The programming butten SET can be pushed before or after switching on the DPSI 2018 Duplex Edition.

Find information concerning DPSI 2018 Duplex Edition's switching on and off in chapter Switching on and off.

Pushing programming button SET before switching on (battery programming)

When pushing the programming button SET before switching on the DPSI 2018 Duplex Edition for approx. three seconds the battery type can be programmed. This is necessary due to low voltage thresold recognition of the DPSI 2018 Duplex Edition.

After pushing the programming button SET for apporx. three seconds the DPSI 2018 Duplex Edition runs in programming mode after releasing the programming button SET. When battery programming is started the internal buzzer runs for three seconds followed by a three-second break. This indicates operating mode "Programming battery type".

Now a one-time beep occurs which indicates "Battery type no. 1". If the programming button SET must be pushed again within three seconds to select this battery type.

If the programming button SET is not pushed a two-time beep occurs which indicates "Battery type no. 2". This principle repeats until a seven-time beep occurs. If the programming button SET is not pushed now within three seconds no programming is done and the DPSI 2018 Duplex Edition runs in normal operating mode again.

Table 3: Selection battery type
Battery type no. Buzzer code Battery type
1 1x beep 5 cells NiCd / NiMH (6.0V)
2 2x beep 6 cells NiCd / NiMH (7.2V)
3 3x beep 2 cells LiIon (7.2V)
4 4x beep 2 cells LiPo (7.4V)
5 5x beep 2 cells LiFePO4 (6.6V)
6 6x beep 7 cells NiCd / NiMH (8.4V)
7 7x beep Battery monitoring deactivated

As factory setting battery tpye 4 (2 cells LiPo battery) is programmed by default. When selecten "7x beep" (Battery monitoring deactivated) no low voltage errors are indicated by the buzzer.

The programmed battery type will be indicated after standard switching on by the buzzer code with corresponding multiple beeping.

Pushing programming button SET after switching on

When pushing the programming button SET within ten seconds after switching on the DPSI 2018 Duplex Edition for approx. three seconds the listed parameters can be programmed:

Table 4: Programming with programming button SET
Parameter Options
Output voltages "A", "B" and "C" 5.4V / 6.0V / 6.6V / 7.4V
Receiver type EXBUS-JETI / SBUS
Setting of PWM outputs Channels 1 - 8 or Channels 9 - 16

After pushing the programming button SET for approx. three seconds the DPSI 2018 Duplex Edition runs in programming mode after releasing the programming button SET. After starting programming mode initially all four LEDs of the DPSI 2018 Duplex Edition go off.

Parameter programming is done in this order:

  • Selecting output voltage "A"
  • Selecting output voltage "B"
  • Selecting output voltage "C"
  • Selecting receiver type
  • Allocating of receiver channels to the PWM outputs

Selecting output voltages "A", "B" and "C"

After all LEDs went off at first the LED output voltage "A" starts flashing (2x per second). Output voltage "A" can be set by pushing programming button SET shortly. With each keypress the output voltage jumps to the next value. Each keypress is indicated with a short beep of the buzzer.

The output voltage are refered to different LED colors.

Table 5: Color code output voltages
LED color Output voltage
green 5.4 volts
yellow 6.0 volts
orange 6.6 volts
red 7.4 volts

After each keypress it takes approx. two seconds until the output voltage reaches the selected value. Then with a additional keypress the next voltage value can be set. When desired output voltage is selected no further action is necessary. After five seconds the selected value will be saved and the LED is permanently illuminated with the corresponding voltage color.

At the same time the LED for output voltage "B" starts flashing. To set output voltages "B" and "C" use same procedure described above.

Note: When programming output voltages "A", "B" and "C" a brief test occurs. It is verified if the selected output voltage can be used. When e. g. 7.4V is selected and only 6V are connected (5 cells NiMH) the corresponding LED changes to initial color, pressing of programming button SET has no effect.

Receiver programming

After programmin output voltage "C" the fourth and last LED starts flashing. This LED is responsible for receiver programming. The flashing value is corresponding to the recently programmed receiver type.

Table 6: Receiver type
Value LED flashing Receiver type
1x flash EXBUS-JETI
2x flash SBUS

When the red LED flashes once recently "EXBUS-JETI" is programmed. After flashing a five second break occurs. If programming button SET is pushed within this five seconds the LED flashes two times corresponding to receiver type "SBUS".

This procedure is repeated as long as the programming button SET is pressed within the five second waiting time. If programming button SET is not pressed for more than five seconds programming "Receiver type" is finished. The receiver corresponding to the flashing code is stored.

Allocating of PWM outputs

Switching on and off
